When Bianca Volpe's husband Marco suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at their family home, paramedics worked tirelessly to save his life. Although Marco sadly couldn't be saved, the compassion and care shown to his family left a lasting impression.

Marco was just 49 when he suffered the cardiac arrest at home with Bianca and their two young sons, Valentino and Alessio.

Paramedics from Mernda, Watsonia and AV’s highly-skilled specialist Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedics worked for more than an hour to save Marco's life. Despite their best efforts, he sadly passed away.

In the year following his death, Bianca and her family found a meaningful way to honour his memory while giving back to those who had supported them during an incredibly difficult time.

On 13 August, family and friends gathered at Casa D'Abruzzo Club in Epping for a fundraising event celebrating Marco's life. A tribute round was also held at the local football club where Marco had served as junior president.

Together, the community raised an incredible $25,431.84 for ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø.

Among those attending the fundraiser were ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø paramedics and local leaders, including members of the team who had responded to Marco's cardiac arrest.

Mernda Team Manager Amanda Sharpe said hearing Bianca speak about the care her family received was a powerful reminder of the lasting impact paramedics can have, even when the outcome isn't what everyone had hoped for.

"In some of life's most difficult moments, the way we support patients, families and communities can leave a profound and lasting impression," Amanda said.

For Bianca and her family, the fundraiser was an opportunity to remember Marco, celebrate his contribution to their community and express their gratitude to those who cared for him.

Their extraordinary generosity is a reminder that the impact of care and compassion can extend well beyond a single moment.

To Bianca, Valentino, Alessio and everyone who supported the fundraiser, thank you. Your generosity is a beautiful tribute to Marco's memory and will help support the important work of ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø.
